"Don’t be afraid, just stand where you are and watch the LORD rescue you." Exodus 14:13

We all know the story of the Exodus and how the Israelites were trapped by the Red Sea on one side and the Egyptian Army bearing down on them on the other side. There was literally nowhere to run...or so they thought. God suddenly caused a great wind to blow, dividing the Red Sea and exposing dry land for the Israelites to cross to the other side. As if that wasn’t enough, the Sea then swallowed up the enemy and their rescue was complete. It’s a great story of what God can do for His people and should be a reminder to us that God has options for our deliverance that we have never even dreamed of. The promise in these words is marvelous, the Lord will rescue us. What do we need to do? Just stand back and watch! How many times in our lives have we experienced this very thing? We are in despair, our world is falling in around us, we are full of fear and there is nowhere to go. Then, suddenly, the Lord reminds us that He is in control and all that is required of us is to stand back and watch Him do His thing. God is a marvelous rescuer and he has a wild imagination! Who else, but God, could think up the rescues that Israel experienced over the years? I am in awe of the way He worked in the lives of the Israelites and I am in awe of the way He works in my own life. I would never have dreamed up the way the Lord has seen me through my times of despair, but He has done it in the most creative ways! So, next time you’re feeling overwhelmed and afraid, remember to just stand back and watch the Lord rescue you in the most amazing way!

Father, thank You for this story of old. Thank You for reassuring me that You will rescue me from the impossible and all I need to do is step back out of Your way and watch You work. I am so thankful that You are in control of my life. Save me from myself and my need to control. Free me that I might be able to submit my life to You. Rescue me as only You can! Amen
