"I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God." Psalm 40:1-3

He heard our cries of desperation and He lifted us up out of the slimy pit of sin and death. He freed us from the mud and mire and he set our feet on a rock! Not just any rock, but the rock of Jesus Christ. In all this world, that is the only place that we can stand firm. Jesus Christ is our sure foundation and we need never move from that solid ground. It is because we have been freed from the bondage of sin, the mud and mire, that weighed us down and kept us in a position of constant struggle, that we have a new song to sing. We have been freed! We have hope for the future and we have Jesus Christ as our rock: surely, we have a hymn of praise we can sing to our God! Let us resolve today that we will never forget that God has heard our cry, lifted us out of the mire of sin and set us on the Rock, Jesus Christ, and that we can stand firm on Him. Let us sing a new song of praise to God each day for the way He has led us and the hope He has given us.

Father, how I praise You for hearing my cries for help. You did not leave me in the quick sand of sin that was quickly sucking me under, but lifted me up and placed me on the Rock of Jesus. I am eternally grateful for that; may I now live a life that is worthy of you. Amen
