"In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free." Psalm 118:5

When the anguish of our soul overwhelmed us and we cried to Him, the LORD set us free. Through the death of Jesus Christ, who "became sin" for us, He set us free. We have been set free from sin and the curse of death and all the anguish and despair that go with it. What joy a slave must have experienced when the chains fell off and freedom was found! We have experienced the weight of bondage, and now through Jesus Christ, we know the ecstasy of freedom! Once He freed us, God did not leave us there. He went on to adopt us as sons, giving us the inheritance of a son, making us joint-heirs with the very one who died to set us free! We are now free to live the life we once only dreamed of. Truly, we are blest. Praise Him for His grace, for we have known the despair of sin, we have tasted the joy of freedom, and one day very soon, we will be given the inheritance He has in store for us. What joy will be ours when we come face to face with the GOD who set us free and who then made himself our Father! All praise be to Him!

Father, how we praise You for setting us free! Sin weighed heavy about us, its chains made us so weary. Thank You, Jesus, for taking our place and giving us freedom. Help us to live lives worthy of this freedom and help us to reach out to all those around us who are still bound by sin, and help them to see Jesus as their salvation as well. Amen
