Be Still

"Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.”  Psalm 37:7 (NLT)

I need to take these words to heart.  All too often when a problem arises I think it is time to take action to forge ahead and to right the wrong.  What I really need to do is stop and pray.  I need to ask God for His direction and be still so that I can hear His voice.  The reality is that I may need to do nothing, except wait patiently for Him to take charge and settle the matter.  In my busy and hectic life, there are far too many loud noises and distractions that surround me.  I know I must lose sight of what God wants me to do and I need to stop and sit quietly in His presence for a while so that I can be redirected.  I need to listen for His voice because He often speaks to me in whispers that cannot be hear above all the ruckus of my life.  Being still is not an easy task for me, I am a take action kind of person, but it is really one of the most important tasks that I must learn to do.  I need to go to Him and allow Him to take control of my life.  I must yield control of my life to Him.  The reality is that He does not need me to take action; He needs me to be quiet and allow Him to take action.

Father, forgive me for allowing the things of this world to draw me away from You.  You are all I need.  Help me to make the time in my busy life to sit quietly in Your presence.  Help me to be patient as I wait on You to act.  Keep me from moving ahead without You.  Guide me and direct me as only You can do.  Amen
