I Will Be a Father to You

“And I will be a Father to you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” 2 Cor. 6:18

Earthly Fathers no matter how attentive they are to their children will at times fail them.  They are not perfect and their flesh gets in the way of parenting at times, it’s just a fact of life.  But our Heavenly Father will never fail us.  Many people unwittingly transfer their earthly father’s expectations of themselves to the Heavenly Father.  If their fathers expected them to fail, the think the Lord is waiting for them to mess us.  It dishonors God to think in this way.  He knows what we can become, what we will become when we turn ourselves over to Him.  He will make us into something special. It boggles the mind to think that God has chosen us as His sons and daughters and that He wants to make us into princes and princesses. Why would He choose me?  It surely was an act of grace!  At the same time it is awesome to know that we have an all powerful Father in charge of our lives, even if we don’t deserve it.  It matters not what comes into our path, what trial presents itself, what misfortune comes our way, our Father is there to make it right.  He has all the power of the Universe at His disposal and He will do whatever it takes to see us through.  There is no greater assurance for us than to know that our Father is in control of our lives.  We are blessed beyond measure to have been adopted by the King.  Let us do all in our power to live, as His children should.

Father, we are so blessed to be called Your sons and daughters.  You have chosen us even though we are weak and foolish and worthless.  You have showered us with Your grace and we are truly grateful.  Help me to rest in Your love.  Help me to remember that nothing can harm me because You are in control of my life.  Thank You Father for everything You do in my life, but most of all for loving me. I love you with all my heart.  Your love has changed me and I pray it will become more and more what you want it to be. Amen
